Tackling Loneliness in Leicestershire

Tackling loneliness and social isolation is one of the biggest challenges we are facing in society at the moment. Many people across different sections of society experience loneliness or isolation at various times in their lives, and it's clear that loneliness can affect anyone, regardless of a person's age or the area they live in. We also know that feeling lonely can have quite a significant effect on our health and wellbeing.

Leicestershire County Council has therefore embarked on a large scale project to tackle loneliness and isolation in our communities. As part of our work on this important agenda, Leicestershire County Council has worked with partners to create some new resources to help with tackling loneliness in our communities.

The Loneliness Toolkit for Leicestershire comprises of an 8-page booklet, which provides lots of useful information to help people reduce feelings of loneliness. It also has information about local sources of support, as well as how to get involved in community groups, projects and activities. A shorter 2-page summary document has also been produced.

In addition to the toolkit document, a new area on the Leicestershire Communities website has also been created, with details about how to get help, information and support regarding loneliness.

The Loneliness Toolkit document was launched at a 'Celebrating Great Communities' event, held at County Hall on Thursday 5th December 2019.
