Hospital Discharge Grant for Carers (HDGfC)
The Hospital Discharge Grant for Carers (HDGfC) is a short term one off scheme we ran successfully in 2023 and 2024. Carers were able to apply for the one off grant to help with any incurred cost following the cared for person being discharged from hospital. As part of this scheme, we were also able to identify new carers which is aligned with our LLR Carers Strategy. The last scheme in 2024, Leicestershire County processed 283 applications and gave out £108,301 and identified 81% new carers.
We are pleased to advise that as part of the Accelerating Reform Funds (ARF) project, the HDGfC will run scheme again from 3 February 2025. County will jointly run the HDGfC with Leicester City.
Eligible carers can apply for HDGfC, if both the carer and the cared for person are aged 18+ and if the cared for:
+ lives within Leicestershire County or City of Leicester
+ has been discharged from hospital in the last 2 weeks
+ has incurred any additional costs linked to the cared for person's discharge from hospital

Please note this is a one-off grant for carers looking after residents in Leicestershire or City of Leicester and is only applicable to discharges from 3 February 2025, until there is no longer any funding available.
