Leicester Animal Aid's Community Pet Support Scheme wins national award
A local cat and dog rehoming Centre is celebrating after its Community Pet Support Scheme's staff team was crowned Team of the Year at the Petplan and Association of Dogs and Cats Homes Charity Awards ceremony on 14th May.
Whilst many may know Leicester Animal Aid as a rehoming Centre for animals in need, it also runs a Community Pet Support Scheme that provides free practical pet care in the community to those who have long term physical and/or mental health conditions, but the team's work goes beyond pet care.
The team bring kindness, joy, and companionship, into the lives of both pets and owners, making a life-changing difference to those they support.
General Manager, Keely Furborough, said: "We were thrilled to find out we were one of the three finalists, but to go on and win is fantastic! I'm so proud of the team and delighted for them that the invaluable support they provide to some of the most vulnerable in our communities has been recognised at a national level.
"Our team helps to keep cherished animal companions and their owners together. This improves animal health and wellbeing together with preventing loneliness and social isolation. I know that everyone who uses the Scheme will be so happy for the team too."
The Scheme covers three districts, Blaby, Hinckley & Bosworth and Oadby & Wigston, and can provide free practical pet care in the form of dog walking, grooming, enrichment activities and support with vet visits, along with temporary boarding of pets for clients if they have hospital appointments.
LAA's Community Pet Support Scheme is proud to be supported by the National Lottery Community Fund.
